Roan Mountain State Park

Roan Mountain State Park offers wonderful opportunities for visitors to enjoy the natural beauty and history found in Tennessee. Located at the base of the 6,285 foot elevation Roan Mountain, Roan Mountain State Park consists of 2,006 acres of southern Appalachian forest. Visitors to the park can enjoy a wide variety of activities.
Hiking and fishing
Roan Mountain State Park contains 12 miles of hiking trails with difficulty levels ranging from easy to strenuous. Park guests can hike along streams and ridges while enjoying the wildflowers and wildlife found throughout Roan Mountain State Park. Fishing for trout is a popular pastime in the park throughout the year. Try your luck angling for rainbow trout, brook trout and brown trout in the Doe River that originates just above the park on Roan Mountain.
Camping
If you enjoy camping or simply want to stay in the park overnight, then Roan Mountain State Park has both cabins and sites for RV and tent camping. Each of the park's 30 cabins is located in the woods and features a front porch with chairs. The campground at Roan Mountain State Park has 20 tent sites and 87 RV spaces.
The Miller House
Discover how Tennessee mountain folk lived in the early part of the 20th century by paying a visit to the Miller House, which is the site of the Dave Miller homestead. Catch a glimpse of the past exemplified by the house itself, built in 1909, as well as the barn, smoke house, hog pen, corn crib, chicken house, spring house and even the outhouse; all played a role in the lives of the family that owned the property. During the summer months, the Miller House is also the site for demonstrations of traditional folkways, performances by area musicians and presentations by local storytellers.
