Meeman-Shelby State Park

Taking its cue from the diverse natural wildlife in and around the Mississippi, Meeman-Shelby State Park offers a variety of activities for any outdoor enthusiast. From camping to fishing to disc golf, there is something for everyone in this Tennessee state park.

Miles of shoreline

Located near Milington, Tennessee, Meeman-Shelby State Park borders on the Mississippi River, and two-thirds of the over 13,000-acre park is bottomland hardwood forest. The park also boasts two lakes, Poplar Tree Lake and Piersol Lake. Both are open for fishing and boating, but no gasoline motors are allowed. A park fishing permit is required and is available at the park office. The park maintains a boat ramp on the river that is offered for public use.

Park features

The park features miles of hiking trails and is the home of one of the largest disc golf courses in the Southeast. The abundant wildlife includes deer, turkey, beaver, otter and bobcat, as well as over 200 species of songbirds, waterfowl and shorebirds. The American bald eagle is a frequent sight, making this spot a favorite for bird watchers. Educational opportunities abound at the Meeman Museum and Nature Center, which was named for the conservation editor who helped establish the park.

Amenities and facilities

For day-use, 300 picnic tables are scattered throughout the park with convenient access to restrooms, water fountains and playgrounds. Campers enjoy a convenient campground consisting of 49 sites, each equipped with a picnic table, barbecue grill and electrical and water hookups. A modern bathhouse features hot showers, and restroom facilities are onsite. Group campsites are also available with advance reservation.
