Big Ridge State Park

Big Ridge State Park sits on the south shore of the Norris Reservoir, part of the Tennessee Valley Authority system, or TVA. Located just 25 miles north of Nashville, Big Ridge is a favored destination for fishermen, campers and boating enthusiasts. The park provides a true taste of nature while still being close to city comforts and conveniences.
The park
As part of a cooperative project between the TVA, the National Park Service and the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), Big Ridge State Park was developed for use in the 1930s. Visitors can see structures that were built during that time, marked by the fine stonework that was a trademark of the CCC. Big Ridge State Park covers 3,687 acres and is mostly heavily forested. Park amenities include 50 campsites capable of accommodating recreational vehicles. These campsites offer power, water and sewer service. There are also 19 cabins available for rent as well as a group campsite that can handle up to 120 people.
Attractions
Other attractions at Big Ridge State Park include over 15 miles of hiking trails, three covered picnic shelters, playgrounds, athletic fields, a complete gift shop and a sandy, swimming beach. Given the proximity of Nashville and its suburbs, many other recreational and shopping activities are nearby.
Getting there
Big Ridge State Park is easy to reach from metropolitan Nashville. Take I-75 to Highway 61 east, go 12 miles and look for the park entrance. The park is open 8am to 10pm every day, year round. Admission is free, but there are charges for boat rental, picnic shelter rental and other services.
In the Nashville area, Big Ridge State Park is the prime spot for fishing, boating and summertime activities of all kinds, so plan to take your next vacation there.
