Big Cypress Tree State Park

Some of the best vacations are had in state parks. They are often packed with natural attractions and outdoor activities that you can enjoy. Tennessee is full of great natural attractions, and Big Cypress Tree State Park is no exception to this rule.

History

This park gets its name from a giant bald cypress that once towered over the park. This enormous tree was ancient, living an estimated 1,350 years. In 1976, an unfortunate storm brought a lightening strike that struck the top of the tree. The rumor is that the tree continued to smoke for two weeks after the strike. This notorious bald cypress is no longer standing, but many of the species remain.

Camping

Camping is permitted if you are a Girl Scout or a Boy Scout troop. If you are not a scout, then you can enjoy all the beauty the park has to offer during the opening hours. Great hiking trails and picnic facilities are among the activities available to visitors.

Festivals

In the fall, Big Cypress Tree State Park holds its annual fall festival. The event brings in large crowds to enjoy musical acts and local artisans. If shopping is not your bag, then perhaps nature is. It is a wonderful time of the year to view all the plant and animal life the park has to offer.
